What is use of Astrology?
Nov 29, 2010 English
Everyone of you, whether a believer of astrology or not, must be going through the columns of astrological predictions published in newspapers, magazines or some other media with a focus on daily/weekly/monthly or yearly readings. These are generally based on your Moon sign (as in Vedic Astrology practiced in India) or Sun sign as is practice with western astrologers. These are amazingly accurate as far as some characteristics associated with sun/moon signs are concerned. However, as a matter of fact, there are billions of persons in this world having same sun/moon sign. But every person‘s horoscope is unique depending upon his place of birth, time of birth, date of birth and the time zone. Therefore it is impossible that future predictions based on these sun/moon signs will apply for all natives. This is because even if their sun/moon signs are same, each one’s ascendant and positions of other planets will definitely be different.
Non believers of Astrology generally want to know “How can a Planet in space, some millions or billions miles away really affect the person on Earth?” But modern scientists have accepted the fact that solar storms on Sun affect Earth’s magnetic field, climate etc. Similarly it has been proved that high/low tides in oceans are caused by gravitational pull of Moon. In the same way gravitational activities, magnetic fields and cosmic waves from different planets in solar system also have their effects on Earth and the life (plants, animals and human life) on Earth. Of course these effects may vary depending on their distances, intensity of gravitational pull, characteristics of cosmic waves and their current position in solar system. But they do affect. Our ancestors have observed and recorded these effects which in turn were popularly known as ASTROLOGY. Science of Astronomy which is defined as study of Sun, Moon and other planets of solar system is the basis of Astrology and hence it (astrology) has to be accepted as science.
Before the invention of printing technology, the knowledge of Astrology was passed on to future generations through “Guru Shishya Parampara” i.e. verbally passed on to disciples. Many important information and techniques might have lost during such transformation. Thanks to technological development that now most of these old astrological techniques are available in print media. Growing public interest and researches in twentieth century saw the refinements of available predictive techniques.
There are many predictive techniques such as Tarot, I Ching, runes, ramal etc available now-a-days. But Astrology is different than all of those. Astrology is used not only to predict future events but it can also be used to gain in-depth knowledge of your personality traits that you may be or may not be aware of. Thus knowing strong and weak points of your personality is like discovering another side of your own personality. This knowledge can be used advantageously to direct your energy in right direction, to make most of your potential and speed up growth process. To my mind, this is one and only reason why one should study Astrology.
I heard many people saying that “Astrology is very difficult to study” and “that it requires so much mathematics.” It’s not true. If you know simple school maths i.e. addition, subtraction and division you are well equipped to handle astrological calculations. However today you do not have to do even that. There are many web sites and soft wares where you can get correctly computed birth charts in a second. Of course, if you are interested in getting qualified as an Astrologer you may have to learn how to calculate birth charts. Otherwise without learning maths one can proceed to learn predictive astrology. Now let us tackle another myth about difficulty level. Study of Astrology is as easy as (or as difficult as) learning any language, sport or musical instrument. You go through a process of initial interest/excitement followed by hard work and then by practice, practice and practice. Only after that you will get self confidence. Study of astrology is no different than this. Easiness or difficulty will depend on one’s interest in learning and how hard one is prepared to work for achieving this goal. Therefore I will advise readers to go ahead and take advantage of science of astrology to channelize your energy in right direction and speed up the process of your growth.
